The Birds Are Back in Town!

The completed fountain in front of Weaver St. Market

CARRBORO, NC--August, 16 2001
Finishing touches were put on the fountain in front of Weaver St. Market on Thursday, as landscape designers Pete Lucey and David Hinkle (shown above) added plant life around the bird sculpture that was created several years ago by local sculptor Mike Roig.

The fountain, which was a community effort with many folks lending a hand by adding in their area of expertise, had been under construction for several months.

The Public Gallery was in charge of the effort, searching Chatham County for just the right stones to compliment the piece.

Steve Magers was the stonemason for the pond, taking a week off work to complete it, with help from Rick Hermanson. David Hinkle's landscape design company is Blue Rose Patios & Gardens in Chapel Hill.

You might remember the birds from the Art on Weaver initial offering. They first appeared perching in the front lawn of Sparrow and Sons Plumbing on Weaver St. After that they resided in another location in front of Weaver St. Market.

When Weaver St. Market began their expansion, the birds were moved so storm sewer could be laid. They have found their new home and will be perched for take-off for many years to come at this location. Stop by and check them out!
