Reading Is The Key

Literacy Programs

Children learn to love the sound of language before they even notice the existence of printed words on a page. Reading books aloud to children stimulates imagination and expands their understanding of the world.

Since 2002, Read Seed has provided books to children offering Literacy Programs designed to read children in need. Through our Books-In-A-Bag Program we provided community wide book distributions to public housing resident children.

Volunteers distribute books

Seeding Summer Reading gave books to each student in several elementary schools in order to spark summer reading at home.

September Literacy Month

Free Book Tuesday Free Book Tuesday invited children to visit and select a gently used book every week. Community Outreach Partners in several Counties got hundreds of books given to participating families for ownership or wait room enjoyment. Throughout the year Read Seed celebrated books and reading by observing occasions like September Literacy Month and opening events to the public like the Andolia Oakley Eaton Read A Thon.

At this time, Read Seed is reviewing programs to better address how North Carolina children can be better served in coming years. Check back in 2011 for information about what programs we will offer.
