While a newer, faster computer or higher speed modem might speed things up for you online, there is a better way to upgrade your overall computer performance which is a much cheaper way to go than buying a new system.

The computer we built in '97 was state of the art, for about 10 minutes. It didn't take long before the 200 mhz motherboard was replaced with a 400 mhz. Oddly enough, when we upgraded to a faster processor, evidence of new, ripping high speeds were not that apparent. In the initial testing of our new unit, we had used 64 mgs of edo ram (random access memory), because our new 32 mg s-dram memory dimm had not yet arrived. Touted as being 10 times faster than conventional memory, s-dram is the lastest and greatest in memory technology.

When the new memory arrived the next day, we installed it and rebooted the computer. The speed achieved by simply changing the type of memory made our jaws drop in awe! Since then, we added another 32 mg dimm, and have a computer that doesn't bog down anymore, at a cost substantially lower than a new computer.

As technology changes and computers become better and cheaper, you don't want to find yourself in a situation where you have paid thousands of dollars for a computer that will sell for a fraction of that cost 6 months down the line. Try upgrading your memory first. You just might be amazed by the difference!
