Louise Omoto Kessel is a storyteller who lives in Pittsboro NC. She has been telling stories professionally since 1981. In this monthly calendar she includes her own performances and that of some of her favorite performing friends.

April 17- Louise tells stories at Shakori Hills Festival. On Friday April 17, with musician, Mike Hamer, at the Caberet Tent, 1:30 p.m. On Sunday April 20, with percussionist Beverly Botsford, at the Caberet Tent, 11:15 a.m.. This is a wonderful festival of music, dance, storytelling, kids activities and more! Right in Chatham County, NC. http://www.shakorihills.org

April 19- Louise Omoto Kessel and Doug Elliot tell stories at the NC Museum of Art in conjunction with their Earth Day celebration. This FREE outdoor event will run from 11-3 in the Museum Park and Trails. Louise's sets are at 11:15 a.m. and Noon on the Storytelling Stage. Storyteller Doug Elliot's first set is at 12:15 at the pavillion stage and then at 2:30 at the Storytelling Stage.) April 19- Louise tells stories for the Durham Earth Day Celebration. This FREE outdoor event takes place this year at Central Park in Durham from Noon to 6 p.m. Lots of performers including the Procession of the Species Parade! April 22- The Monti! A new storytelling venue specifically focused on personal narrative has it's KICK OFF event! 7:30 p.m. at Spice Street. University Mall, 201 South Estes Dr. Chapel Hill. $7 admission; $5 students. Theme: Family Ties. April 25- Soy y Canto with percussionist Beverly Botsford at the Pittsboro General Store Cafe. Exuberant Afro-Latin songs and rhythms. 9-11:30 p.m. $5 cover. http://www.thegeneralstorecafe.com

April 26- Louise tells stories at Clyde Fest, this year in BYNUM! 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bynum Ball Park, located off 15-501 in Bynum, between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for Chatham Arts Council Members, $2 for children ages 2-12 and free for under 2. This event celebrates legendary (and wonderful) kid-loving folk artist Clyde Jones. Clyde makes "critters" out of logs, plywood, paint, and found objects. There will be music and kids activities and the opportunity to tour Clydes amazing yard full of critters! Louise will be doing a couple of storytelling sets and there may be other storytellers joining in as well http://www.chathamarts.org

April 26- (TENTATIVE) Louise tells stories at the LeLeche League's "Rock the Baby" celebration of breast feeding, 4-6 p.m. at the Carrboro Town Commons. (And if I'm not there, lots of other fun stuff will be!)

April 27- Louise tells stories at the Church of Reconciliation in Chapel Hill as part of their adult Sunday School on the topic of Rivers!

April 27- Louise Omoto Kessel and Beverly Botsford tell stories at the Broad Street Cafe's "Storytelling for Grownup's" series! 7- 8:30 p.m. $5. Hear Louise tell stories with percussionist Beverly Botsford's "sound scape" accompaniment. And then, hang onto your hats as BEVERLY tells stories from her life and adventures! Come early and eat dinner at the Cafe and then stay for a fine evening of storytelling. This event is part of a monthly series of LAST SUNDAY storytelling for Adults! http://www.thebroadstreetcafe.com

May 1- Louise tells stories at Frank Porter Graham Elementary School.

May 3- Piedmont Wildlife Refuge's Walk for Wildlife Festival, Leigh Farm Park. Includes storytelling and more at the more details in the next edition of this calendar. Gumby Montgomery and Sarah Haggerty will tell stories.

May 4- Louise tells stories at Kidzu Museum for Children in Chapel Hill. 1:30 p.m. All day admission is $4 per person (0-24 months are free). They are open on Sundays from 1-5 p.m. http://www.kidzuchildrensmuseum.org

May 17- Louise tells stories at the Duke Family Fun Day.

May 18- gumby Montgomery tells stories at the Broad Street Cafe's Family Series! $3 for ages 3 and up. gumby is an environmental educator and a fantastic storyteller! recommended!

May 19-23--- Art Party Camp at Clapping Hands Farm. This camp for ages 2-7 WITH their parents runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day this week. Visual Arts, Movement, Dance, Games, Singing is all part of the mix. Storyteller Louise Omoto Kessel directs the camp and tells a story each day. http://ClappingHandsFarm.com

May 25- Broad Street Cafe Last Sunday Storytelling for Grownups series continues! 7- 8:30 p.m. $5. Bill Friedman tells his wonderful personal and family stories, rooted in his Jewish experience. Jennifer Justice is a well known and marvelous storyteller from Boston! This should be a GREAT evening!

June, July, and August--- Summer Camp at Clapping Hands Farm! We will run 6 weeks of Art and Nature focused camp this summer for ages 7-16 at our farm in Pittsboro. Each week of camp has a different theme, and has professional working artists or naturalists as lead teachers, a fantastic staff camper ratio, and takes place in a beautiful rural setting with acres of forest, fields and a pond to explore.
